Run & Refresh in Yotsuya: 3 Scenic Courses and Where to Chill After

Sometimes you just need to clear your head, get the blood pumping, or shake off that afternoon slump.
And when you’re in central Tokyo, Yotsuya is one of those low-key perfect places to go for a run—surrounded by greenery, history, and surprisingly quiet streets.

Here are 3 running courses around Yotsuya that are beginner-friendly and scenic, plus relaxing spots to cool down after.

 

Course 1: Sotobori Street to Akasaka Imperial Grounds (Approx. 5km)

Overview:
Start from Yotsuya Station and head south along Sotobori Street. Loop around the Akasaka Imperial Estate (near the State Guest House) and return.
*   Start: Yotsuya Station (Kojimachi Exit)
*   Route: Along Sotobori → past the State Guest House → Aoyama-Itchome area → loop back
*   Distance: ~5 km loop

Why Run Here:
*   Light on traffic lights = smoother flow
*   Beautiful views of the State Guest House’s Western-style architecture
*   Gentle inclines for that sweet cardio burn

Post-run chill spot:
Sophia University – Sophia Tower Bench Area (open to public on non-event days)
Peaceful and green, perfect for stretching or just soaking in the calm.

 

Course 2: Around Shinjuku Gyoen Park Loop (Approx. 3.5km

Overview:
Circle around the lush outer perimeter of Shinjuku Gyoen, one of Tokyo’s most scenic urban parks.

*   Start: Yotsuya-Sanchome Intersection
*   Route: Pass by Shinjuku Gate → Sendagaya Gate → Okido Gate
*   End: Back at Yotsuya-Sanchome
*   Distance: ~3.5 km

Why Run Here:
*   Tree-lined streets and seasonal flowers (cherry blossoms in spring = chef’s kiss)
*   Mostly flat roads, good for easy runs
*   Surprisingly quiet for central Tokyo

Post-run café:
Paul Bassett Shinjuku – about a 10-minute walk.
Known for killer espresso, wide seating, and chill vibes.

 

Course 3: Sotobori Park Out & Back Route (2km+ Adjustable)

Overview:
A flexible route using Sotobori Park between Yotsuya and Ichigaya—great for short, no-pressure runs or intervals.

*   Start: Just outside Yotsuya Station
*   Route: Run to Ichigaya Station and back
*   Distance: ~2 km (adjust as you like)

Why Run Here:
*   Scenic riverside path
*   Beautiful cherry blossoms in spring
*   Lit up in the evening = solid night run option
